Full Website Builder Rating
Every website builder we've tested, ranked by overall score. Filter by purpose or price to narrow down your options.
Understanding the Rating Table
The table above ranks every website builder we've tested using the same weighted formula described in full on our Methodology page: templates & design contributes 35% of the final score, ease of use 30%, SEO tools 20%, and price & support 15%. That weighting is deliberate — design flexibility and ease of use together make up nearly two-thirds of the score because they determine whether you'll actually enjoy building your site, while SEO control and price matter but shouldn't be able to outweigh whether the platform is genuinely pleasant and capable to build on.
Why the Order Sometimes Surprises People
A builder with a bigger template library or a lower price isn't automatically ranked higher here, and that catches some readers off guard. A builder boasting hundreds of templates that all look dated and rigid can't make up the difference against a more focused platform with fewer, genuinely well-designed and flexible templates. We'd rather rank a builder that reliably produces a professional-looking, easy-to-edit site above one with an impressive template count and a frustrating editor.
How Often We Update the Numbers
Website builders ship editor redesigns, pricing changes, and template refreshes constantly. We re-test continuously and update a builder's score whenever it changes its pricing, meaningfully overhauls its editor or template library, or restructures its SEO or eCommerce tooling. If a rank shifts between visits to this page, it's because the underlying platform changed, not because of a site redesign.
Filtering by What Actually Matters to You
The scenario and price filters above the table exist because "best website builder" isn't one answer across eCommerce, portfolios, blogs, small business sites, SEO-focused projects, and beginner-friendly builds. Filter by scenario first to see builders genuinely suited to what you're making, then by price if budget is a hard constraint, then by free-plan availability if you want to try before committing to a subscription.
Reading a Score Correctly
A score of 9.0 versus 8.7 is a real but small difference in practical terms. Where the gap matters more is at the extremes: a builder scoring above 9 has cleared nearly every criterion we test with consistently strong design flexibility and an intuitive editor, while a builder scoring below 7 usually has a specific, documented weakness worth reading about in its full review — whether that's a rigid template system, a confusing editor, or SEO tools locked behind an expensive plan.
What This Page Does Not Tell You
The rating table is a starting point, not the whole picture. It can't tell you how a specific template will look with your actual content and images, whether a particular integration you need actually works well, or how a builder's mobile editing app performs on your specific device. That's exactly what the full reviews linked from each row are for, and we'd encourage reading at least the top two or three builders for your scenario before deciding between ones that score within a point of each other.
Comparing This Table to Other Rankings
You'll find website-builder rankings elsewhere that disagree with ours, sometimes significantly, and that doesn't automatically mean either list is wrong. Different outlets weight criteria differently — some lean almost entirely on brand recognition or affiliate commission size and barely account for actual ease of use or SEO depth, others fold in sponsored placement dressed up as an organic ranking. If a ranking elsewhere looks very different from ours, check what it's actually weighting, and whether it discloses sponsored placements, before assuming either list is inaccurate. When in doubt, the fastest way to settle a disagreement between two rankings is to open both builders' editors yourself and see which claim actually holds up.
